Q1. What does "mindfulness" have to do with my business?
To be succesfull, your focus should be on both your business life and your personal life. The business world has seen thousands of great leaders that are miserable with their personal lives and the effects are disastrous. The line between your business and personal life is too closely connected to ignore the effects on each other. Mindfulness helps you do just that.
As the owner, it is up to you to lead your company to where you want it to be. However, you may not be conscious of all of the areas of your business that, if addressed, can have massive results. Very often, business owners like you are too busy doing the everyday tasks.
Together we use mindfulness to eliminate your dangers and fears, capture opportunities and maximize your strengths. This helps your business in many ways, as it directly impacts leadership, relationships, strategy, motivation, productivity, and organizational skills.
Q2. My business is already booming -- why should I fix what isn't broken?
Every top performer uses a coach to bring out their best. Award winning actors, professional athletes and high level executives use mentors, coaches and advisors to help them achieve greatness.
Studies of successful individuals have shown that they are always goal-oriented, persistent and have a person or a group of people that they meet with regularly to brainstorm and learn from.
Q3. What are the benefits of business coaching?
It's a fact that most small businesses fail. Why? A recent study by the National Federation of Independent Businesses found that 70% of small business owners turn to spouses or other family members for the majority of their business advice. Obviously, this is not the best approach. Our goal is to help you improve your bottom line through a process that promotes the best in you and your business.
By hiring a business coach you will receive help with:
- Setting goals
- Creating and refining strategy
- Following through
- Measuring results
- Maintaining your motivation
- Developing structure and balance
- Many, many more
In the beginning, the meetings will focus on the coach getting to know you, learn about your business - its strengths and weaknesses - listen to your needs and desires for your business and determine areas of untapped opportunity. As a result of this analysis, you and your coach will determine an action plan to move forward. You will be assigned specific tasks to complete before the next coaching session in an effort to continue making progress toward your goals. Make no mistake you (the client) control the agenda and direction of the entire coaching engagement.
At each subsequent session you will discuss your progress since the last session, uncover new issues that need to be addressed, exchange ideas about upcoming projects and put in place the next action plan.
Q4. How long does coaching take to work?
This is really determined by the individual needs of the client. At one extreme, some clients have used just one powerful session with me to achieve a major change in their mindset and to make a plan for substantial behavior change. Other clients have worked with me for years to achieve and sustain an evolving set of personal and professional goals. Then there is every possible theme and variation in between these extremes.
The typical coaching engagement lasts for 3 to 6 months and is shaped by well-defined goals and benchmarks for success, with the option for additional follow up coaching after the official engagement ends. The frequency of sessions can vary from once a week to once a month. Session length is usually 1 hour, but can vary depending on the client’s wishes and needs. The bottom line is that there are some rough and ready guidelines for what makes an effective coaching engagement, and there is an enormous amount of flexibility so that each client experiences from coaching exactly what he or she needs as an individual.
